The Flip Side of Crisis

Updated: Aug 21, 2020

So we acknowledge that there is a crisis. We know we have survived a crisis before - probably more than one, definitely more than one. We are still here though aren't we? So what do we do with this crisis - we turn it around. We look at it from a different angle.

What's your angle

So everyone is saying it is a crisis and that's bad? Well did you try looking at it from a different perspective? The world is about balance. Which side of the crisis do you want to be on. The side with all the ‘victims’  - do you really want to be another victim of the crisis? While everyone is stuck on one side of it how about you go around the other side. Don't see it as a road block. See it as part of your road map.

Do you know where you want to go?

Maybe really the issue is that you don't know where you want to go in life, or maybe you just don't know how to get there. Imagine you were at sea in a sailboat and suddenly the wind is against you. When you set out it was smooth sailing and you could head straight towards your intended destination but now how you do get there?  The trick is to navigate your way - find your new adjusted route. You just need to change your route ( in nautical terms, you need to tack) - you can STILL get there but the zigzag route.

Lets back up

What if you don't know where you want to go, what if all you know is that you want to get out of here - the crisis. First you must find your choices. Yes, there are always choices - you can make the choice to do nothing and stay just where you are. Or you can choose to look and see what is available to you. Imagine if you have only ever had chocolate chip ice cream. You always thought that the choice was ice cream or nothing - imagine if you discover there are hundreds of flavours out there, or even hundreds of other deserts out there. Now you know there's choice. So find the choice .

How do you find  this choice?

Firstly change your narrative - change what you say to yourself. Words like “how can I gain from this”; “ how can I move forward” “what do I want?; “what do I really want?” plant the seed. Your brain is like the most fertile soil on the land. Give it a seed and it will grow. Make sure it's a good seed - one that you want in abundance. Ignore negative mental chatter and stop reading the media with all the negative angles. Focus on your positive journey forward. Choose where to place your energy . Don't waste it in the wrong direction - if you know your passion in life then head that way. If you don't, then take some time to discover it. This will be covered in a separate blog.  If you are heading towards your passion you have more motivation and energy to keep the forward momentum.

Don't Place limits

Remember  - don't place limits on what is possible. Life is like a game in which you don't have the rules. Yet when you were a kid you made sense of behaviour by creating rules (and all the adults and other kids in your life tried to tell you ‘rules’ and you adopted them). Throw out your old rules book. Make your own rules - and make sure they help you to get where you want to go.

And remember - challenges are also blessings. They help you to see things differently and overcoming challenges is what makes us grow as a person.
